The state legislature passed a bill earlier this week making it easier to charge drivers who run stop lights and get into accidents causing death or serious injury. The legislation is called “Jeremiah’s Law”, named after a 25 year old male who was killed in such an accident. According to Senator Paul McKinley, in 2007 a vehicle ran a red light in Des Moines and hit the back of Jeremiah Dosser’s motorcycle and killed him. The driver of the vehicle was only charged with a misdemeanor for running a red light. He says this law will make it easier to charge drivers who fail to stop at red lights and kill or injure other motorists.
