Saturday marks the final day of National FFA Week, which saw over a half a million members across the country take part in various activities to promote the many benefits of the organization. Mark Williams, advisor for the Pella FFA Chapter says the organization provides opportunities for its members to build confidence in themselves.

“The big that I hope this individuals get is that we try to get them involved in different speaking contests and different leadership contests – things where they get up in front of a group and speak – and maybe they didn’t think they could do that [before].”

He says there’s also a value in the work that FFA does to get students involved in the community.

“We’re involved in community service, we like to get involved with helping out with Tulip Time and other community-based activities,” says Williams. “It teaches them [the members] a sense of community stewardship and participation in activities such as that, and I hope they move forward with that in their lives.”

Williams says there are 52 members in the Pella FFA Chapter, and adds that the organization is scheduled to host their annual banquet on March 9th.
