Impressive performances in the throwing events at Saturday’s Viking Olympics in Augustana earned Central College’s Matt Graber recognition as the Iowa Conference men’s track and field athlete of the week for field events. Graber finished first in a field of 32 competitors in the shot put, with a toss of 53 feet, 11.75 inches, which obliterated the previous outdoor record at Central College of 51 feet 11 inches by Reid Evans in 1999. It also topped the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard.

Graber’s other medal at the event came in the hammer throw, where he placed second. It’s the fifth time this year that a member of the Central men’s track and field team has been awarded the league honor. Graber and the Dutch make their home-season debut Saturday at the Central Invitational. Events begin at 10 a.m. at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium.
