A week of waiting…or maybe 35 years of waiting will come to an end tonight when the Knoxville girls hit the floor at Wells Fargo Arena to play in their first state tournament basketball game since 1975. The opponent is a state tournament veteran in Waukon who has been to the state tournament four of the last six years and won a state championship in 2004. Knoxville Coach Jim Utiermarkt does not care about that. He says the mission is to try and slow down Waukon’s strong post player Mary Halvorson. Utiermarkt likes the matchups with his guards. He is confident that Sam Abens, Alex Abens and Lacy Stevenson, all three will not get shut down at once. And as always if one to two get hot from the outside, the third usually comes around later on. You can hear the live broadcast on KNIA/KRLS at 6:15, do to Iowa High School regulations the game cannot be streamed live.
