An elementary school that generations of Knoxville students attended will close after the current school year. After months of presentations, questions and discussions the Knoxville School Board decided Monday that this year’s class of fifth graders at East Elementary will be the final group to graduate in that building. Board member Mark Mahoney said the decision to close the school was especially tough for him because all three of his children attended East. The board also approved grade a like centers for the elementary level with Pre-k through 1st grade at West and 2nd-5th grades at Northstar.
