Pella, Lake Red Rock Host Bald Eagle Day Saturday

Central College and the Park Rangers at Lake Red Rock will host “Bald Eagle Day” this weekend. The 22nd annual event will feature several activities and exhibits celebrating our country’s national symbol. Central College will host several indoor events, including eagle shows with Staff from the University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center each hour from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Douwstra Auditorium.

More live birds will also be on display in the nearby Graham Conference Center, along with the Pella Wildlife Company’s “Adventure Shows”, an environmental fair, and wildlife artwork by local artists. An outdoor portion of the day will include a free shuttle to the Lake Red Rock dam, where staff and volunteers will help guests spot bald eagles in the wild.

“It’s excellent [for children]. We’ve been doing this for 22 years, and we continue to have a lot of repeat visitors,” says Lake Red Rock Park Ranger Tracy Spry. “Families are always very much a big part of the participants for the event, and they come from several counties away for this event too. I foresee that if the weather cooperates, we’ll have good luck again.”

The event is presented by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Marion County Conservation Board, Pella Wildlife Company, Central College, Pella Convention and Visitors Bureau, Red Rock Lake Association, Pella Rolscreen Foundation, and the Vermeer Charitable Foundation. “Bald Eagle Day” is free of charge, with no reservations needed, and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. this Saturday.
