Further preliminary information on the 2010-11 District budget was addressed at Monday’s Pella School Board meeting. As a result of extensive discussion, the board elected to propose a property tax increase to $13.99 per $1,000 assessed value to recover funds lost in other areas of the budget.

The increase amounts to roughly 15 cents more than the existing levy, and is significantly less than the average proposed property tax hike of 28 cents per $1,000 for other schools in the area, which was researched by Superintendent Mark Wittmer. A public hearing on the Pella Community School District budget will be held on April 12th at 4:30 p.m.

In other business, the Pella School Board received staff presentations on the Second Chance Reading and PE 4 Life programs, along with an analysis of data from the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) and Iowa Test of Educational Development (ITED).
