Iowa remains at a high risk for significant spring flooding, according to the latest outlook from the National Weather Service in Des Moines. Flood risk is well-above normal at many locations around Des Moines, and the risk of major flooding has increased since the second outlook was released on February 19th.

Flooding is most likely to occur from the middle third of this month into late April. An above normal risk of flash flooding due to ice jams was also reported.

Locally the South Skunk River at Oskaloosa is at the greatest risk to experience minor to moderate flooding – with a 90 percent chance of reaching the river’s 20 foot flood stage, while the Cedar Creek at Bussey is at a near normal flood risk for this time of year, which includes a 24 percent chance of minor flooding this spring.
