With both Pella Community and Pella Christian High Schools installing synthetic surface athletic fields capable of hosting soccer games, there was question as to if the teams would continue to use the City of Pella’s soccer complex. That won’t be the case, though, as both athletic directors have said they plan to continue to practice and play games at Gene Van Wyk field.

Pella High School athletic director Bill VanHorn says the difference that the all-weather surface will make is that both boys and girls soccer teams are almost guaranteed the opportunity to have a dry, flat surface to play on that should minimize injuries caused by uneven or slick surfaces that are common early in the soccer season. Pella Christian Athletic Director Verlan Nikkel also says that utilizing both facilities provides flexibility in scheduling practices and athletic events.
