Area fire fighters gathered in Knoxville this past weekend to receive additional training and information on how to read a fire. Iowa City Fire Department’s Lieutenant Training Officer, Denny Hansen taught the firefighters “The Three Rs of Size Up”, which is a class about how to read the construction and layout of buildings and smoke during fires. Hansen says this helps determine how much fire is in the building and what direction it will move to next. Fire departments represented were Knoxville, Knoxville Township, Melcher-Dallas, Harvey, Indiana Township, Oskaloosa, Russell, New Sharon, Lacona and Chariton. The training took place at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum.
