Central College scratched out a seventh-inning run, then pulled out a 4-3 extra-inning victory to gain a split of its Iowa Conference doubleheader with Coe College Tuesday. Coe escaped with a 3-2 victory in the opener after edging Central at Cedar Rapids Thursday 4-3. The Kohawks were headed to a third straight one-run win in Tuesday’s nightcap, but in the seventh, third baseman Anthony Miller walked, moved to second on a single by designated hitter Caleb Rangel , advanced on a sacrifice by pinch-hitter David Lakin and scored on a grounder by pinch-hitter Ben Chestnut. The Dutch won it in the eighth on a pair of walks and a throwing error following Miller’s two-out infield single. D.J. Glasgow worked out of a two-on, two-out jam in the top of the eighth and got the victory in his second appearance of the day, improving to 4-1.
The Dutch also got strong pitching efforts in the opener. Corey Eisenmann took the loss, dropping to 4-2. He allowed only two earned runs in 5.1 innings, giving up six hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Glasgow threw 1.2 innings of shutout relief, notching two strikeouts. But Central was limited to just three hits, taking an early lead on a first-inning two-run homer by left fielder Ryan Allison . It was his fifth homer of the season. But the Dutch were blanked the rest of the way by unbeaten Coe hurler Alec Lewis .
Central continues its eight-game homestand this weekend, playing host to Luther College in a nine-inning game at 3 p.m. Friday at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field, with a doubleheader against the Norse Saturday.
