Led by the potent bat of Mike Furlong, the Central College baseball team won both games of the Saturday doubleheader with Simpson, proving that games can be won with strong defense and a dynamic offense. Furlong went 5-for-5 between the two games, scoring five runs and driving in two as Central claimed 9-4 and 3-0 victories over the storm.

Central’s 12 hits was the difference-maker in the opener, while stout defense and strong pitching from Joel Pulliam secured the shut-out in the second contest. Pulliam is now 3-0 on the season, while Corey Eisenman notched his team-high sixth win in the opener and is now 6-2.

The wins over Simpson also gave the Central baseball team sole possession of second place in the Iowa Conference with a 13-4 mark. The Dutch are 24-8 overall. Yesterday’s nine-inning game with Simpson was cancelled due to rain.
