The Bussey Fire Department was called to a grassfire near 198th and T-17 at approximately 2 PM Sunday. National Guard troops were training at a nearby facility where local law enforcement and troops train with firearms in an abandoned coal mine site. Guard officials on scene report the wind caught a flare, and it drifted across the street and started a grass fire. Guard members and the Bussey Fire Department worked for about 1/2 hour to extinguish the blaze.
The blaze then re-ignited at approximately 4 PM, and the Bussey Fire Department responded to the scene. With the help of the Clay Township Fire Department the fire was extinguished in approximately 1 hour.
