Several teachers at Knoxville High School have lost bets with their students in regards to a charity fundraising goal.  The Knoxville Student Senate chose cystic fibrosis research as their charity this year and raised a total of $2,968.27 this spring, through fundraisers such as penny wars, a people work auction, 3-on-3 basketball tournament and ice cream sales.  Senior Kirk Gordon says he was proud of the school worked together to exceed everyone’s expectations. He adds that he doesn’t think the teachers thought they were going to raise so much money when they agreed to the bets, and it just goes to show that there is strength in numbers.

The students exceeded all five of their monetary goals for the fundraiser with the highest one being a $2,500 goal that resulted in science teacher and student senate advisor Sean Gibbons having his head shaved in front of the entire student body during an assembly Wednesday afternoon.  Even though he lost the bet Gibbons says he’s very proud of his students and couldn’t have asked anything more from his students for the amount of work and effort they put into the project.

Other monetary goals exceeded by the students include Donna Keesling dying her hair red for the students exceeding $750, Ms. Kuhn corn-rowing her hair for the $1,000 mark, Gibbons shaving his beard for the students raising over $1,250, and Brent Hanna shaving his mustache for reaching the $2,000 goal.
