The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has recently hired a new deputy. Deputy Bobbi Bassett retired in the end of January after over 24 years of service, and the Sheriff’s office has now found her replacement. DJ Reed will begin his new job on Monday as a full time deputy after serving as a reserve for two and a half years. Reed has lived in Marion County his whole life and previously worked at Pella Corporation for 14 years before being hired on as a deputy. Sheriff Ron Goemaat says they reviewed several qualified applicants and decided on Reed based on his hard work with the reserves and the fact that he is well respected among fellow reserves and deputies.
