In a back-and-forth match that saw two ties and three lead changes, the Pella boys soccer team was able to come through when it mattered most, as they defeated Perry last night 4-2. The Little Dutch started slowly, though, as the Bluejays converted on a penalty kick just 7 minutes in the first half to open the game 1-0. Deckar Lynch would knot things up at 1-1 on a long free kick from Blaine Forsythe with 7 minutes remaining in the period, and the teams went into the intermission at 1-1.

Perry again struck first in the second half to regain the lead, but goals by Nolan Chiles, Tyler Elliott and Decker Lynch closed out the match in favor of the Little Dutch. Elliott’s go-ahead goal came on a penalty kick after he was fouled in the box with 23 minutes remaining, while Lynch’s second score of the match provided Pella with a little insurance with 13 minutes remaining.

The victory improves the Pella boys soccer team to 5-3 overall, with the Little Dutch looking to remain undefeated in conference play when they travel to Grinnell today.
