Pella High School’s girls tennis team continued their early season win streak in Little Hawkeye Conference play, with a 10-1 defeat of Oskaloosa yesterday in Pella. The Lady Dutch continued to show improvement in doubles play, as they swept all five matches – including two third set tiebreakers.

Pella’s only loss came at No. 1 singles, as Hillary Nossaman battled back from a 1-6 opening set loss to Amanda Stefanik to force a third set tiebreaker, but fell 10-4 in the final frame. Lady Dutch Head Coach Margene VanHorn says its been important for her to remind Nossaman not to get down on herself after a loss.

“She’s come a long way just in the little time that she’s been out at number one,” said VanHorn. “We’ve got to remember – and I tell her this all the time – she played at number four last year, she’s jumped all the way to one this year, and it’s a whole different world out there at number one.”

The Pella girls are 4-0 in the conference and 5-0 overall in dual meets. The Lady Dutch return to the courts today with the six-team Knoxille Invite at 1:00 p.m.
