The 2010 Legislative Session adjourned last week at the Statehouse in Des Moines, and now the decisions made by lawmakers over the last few months will start being put into effect. State Representative Jim Van Engelenhoven of Pella says even with efforts made to reduce state spending, allocations in the state’s budget will impact property taxes for Iowans. Van Engelenhoven adds that the failure to fund certain initiatives now means that local government and school boards are left in a position where they have no choice but to increase taxes. Jim Van Engelenhoven represents District 71 in the Iowa House, which includes the majority of Marion County and the Monroe Area.
