While the ideal peak for the tulip blossoms in Pella would be right during next week’s Tulip Time festival, the early blooms this spring have created an economic windfall for the community.

“When they [the tulips] do bloom early, it’s very good for our economy, and good for the community,” said Karen Eischen, Executive Director of the Pella Chamber of Commerce. “If anybody was out-and-about the last couple of weeks – specifically last weekend – you could just see the tourists come in, come in early and have the opportunity to shop and really extend that ‘Tulip Time season’ – as we like to call it – out to three or four weeks. That’s a great thing for our economy.”

Eischen says Pella business owners are preparing for what they anticipate will be an incredibly busy few days, as this year’s 75th Annual Tulip Time festival is expected to be the largest ever.
