The wind didn’t prevent some outstanding performances at Thursday’s Tulip Time Relays at Pella High School, in fact at least one meet record was blown away on the new track at the Pella High School Athletic Complex. Pella Christian’s Jasmin Schelhaas ran a personal record 59.91 in a first-place finish in the 400 Meter Dash, breaking the previous meet record by nearly nine-tenths of a second, and setting a new school record at Pella Christian.
Hosting their first meet on the new track, the Pella girls dominated the relay events, winning the 4×200, 4×400, 4×800 and Sprint Medley Relays.
Other highlight performers for the Lady Dutch included first place finishes for Megan Current in the 100 Meter Hurdles, Marielle Gaiser in the 400 Meter Hurdles, Sarah Wittenberg in the 3000 Meter Run, Maddy Davis in the 400 Meter Dash, and Nadine Van Zomeren and Katie Sunderman finishing 1-2 in the 100 Meter Dash.
In the Class AA team standings, Pella finished in second with 170 points, 11 points behind Ottumwa.
In Class A, the Pella Christian Girls finished in fourth place with 64 points, with Pekin putting up a dominating 213 points for first place.
