Approximately 230 runners and walkers and numerous volunteers turned out at Pella Christian High School Saturday morning to take part in the 3rd Annual Gene Van Wyk Memorial 5K Run and Walk. 28-year-old Darin Schuknecht of Pella and 29-year-old Amanda Ives of Pleasant Hill were the overall male and female runners of the race, which also awarded medals to the top three finishers in 8 age divisions. Proceeds from the event benefit a memorial fund named after long-time Pella Christian teacher and guidance counselor Gene Van Wyk.
