Saturday ended a very successful State Track and Field Meet for Marion County athletes as three new medals were earned bringing the total over the three days to 26 medals earned including two individual state championships from 71 total events that qualified.

Earning new medals Saturday were the Twin Cedars girls Sprint Medley Relay team which finished third in Class 1A, giving Lindsay Hoehns her fourth medal at this years meet including a state championship in the Class 1A long jump on Thursday and put the wraps on her stellar career, also Richie Bales of Pella finished third and Alex Edwards of Knoxville finished fifth in the Class 3A 800 meter run.

Several events competed in finals races Saturday after qualifying through their preliminary races Thursday or Friday. Those included Pella’s Brett Bogaard who won the state championship in the Class 3A 100 meter dash and just missed another finishing second in the 200 meter dash in a photo finish by twelve one thousandths of a second, Pella was also second in the Class 3A boys 4×400 relay while Knoxville finished fourth, PCM boys were fourth in the Class 2A Shuttle Hurdle Relay, the Pella Christian girls 4×100 relay team finished fifth in Class 2A, and the Pella girls 4×400 relay was fifth in Class 3A.

In the final team standings, the Pella boys finished fourth in Class 3A with 43 points, just eight points behind champion Sioux City Heelan accomplishing their goal of a top five finish, and Knoxville was 10th with 25 points. On the girls side in Class 3A, Pella finished 20th with 15 points.

In Class 2A the Pella Christian boys finished 27th with nine points, and PCM was 35th with five points. On the girls side Pella Christian and PCM tied for 41st place with four points each.

In Class 1A the Twin Cedars girls finished in a three way tie for fifth place with 28 points
