The Mercy Medical Center Ambulance and the Pleasantville Police Department was called to a vehicle versus juvenile riding a bike accident at 415 West Jones, at Pleasantville elementary around 7:45 this morning. According to Pleasantville school officials a 12 year old boy was injured. Police Chief Joseph Mrstik tells KNIA KRLS News that the boy was riding his bicycle and pulled out in front of a Grand Voyageur minivan and was struck by the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital with complaints of injuries to his foot and side, which are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the minivan told Chief Mrstik that the sun was in their eyes and they did not see the child pull in front of them. Chief Mrstik says that the investigation continues, and at this point he believes it to be an accident. Charges are pending. He urges all who are driving near schools to take particular caution when children are traveling to and from school. He says, “Children are unpredictable, and may behave erratically. Please be careful when driving in school zones and obey all traffic signs, especially crosswalks and stop signs.” Pleasantville school officials also assisted at the scene.
