A very late, but illustrious postseason coaching award has been given to Central College men’s basketball coach Mike Boschee. Boschee has been named Iowa’s college coach of the year by receiving the Paul Maaske Award from the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association. The Dutch set a school record for wins this season with a 23-5 mark, winning the program’s first outright conference title in 25 years and first national tournament berth since 1995. Boschee had previously been named Iowa Conference coach of the year and the D3hoops.com West Region Coach of the year.

The record-setting season was Boschee’s seventh at the helm of the Central basketball program, which had not had a winning season in the previous eight years, and was 6-20 for the first two seasons after Boschee took over. The Maaske Award is named for the longtime Cornell College coach and is given to a non-Division I women’s and men’s coach annually.
