Central’s softball season came to an end yesterday as they fell 8-2 to the University of Chicago in an elimination game of the NCAA Division III Regional Softball Tournament at Simpson College in Indianola.

Chicago took advantage of several Central defensive miscues throughout the game and four of their eight runs were unearned thanks to three Central errors. Chicago led 4-0 before the Dutch got on the board in the third inning on a pinch hit RBI from Trisha Shimak. Each team added another run to make it a 5-2 game after six innings. In the seventh Chicago smacked a solo homerun and a two RBI double and that’s all they would need as Central threatened in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to manage a run and left the bases loaded for the third time in the game. The Dutch had numerous opportunities throughout the game but could never get a timely hit stranding 12 runners for the game. Central ends their season 30-14 overall and goes 0-2 for the second consecutive year in the Regional Tournament.
