Despite wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour, the Central men’s and women’s track and field teams were able to score four victories in yesterday’s Central open in Pella. On the men’s side, Alex Miller claimed first place in the 800 Meter Run, Austin Vondracek got his first win of the season in the 3,000 Meters, and the Dutch 4×100 Meter Relay team also earned a gold medal. The lone winner on the women’s die was Mel McDermott, who placed first in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase.

Central’s multi-event athletes were also in action yesterday in Storm Lake for the opening portion of the Iowa Conference meet. For the men, Kurtis Brondyke and Ethan Miller hold first and second place, respectively, at the halfway point of the decathlon competition, while Carissa Bentz leads the heptathlon for the Dutch women’s team.
