Central College stayed alive with two wins in the Iowa Conference Softball Tournament yesterday at Simpson College in Indianola.

After going 1-1 in the opening day Thursday, the Dutch started the day yesterday with an elimination game against Buena Vista. With the game tied 4-4 Central scored two runs on a two RBI double by Rachel Everingham in the fifth inning then got a three run homerun from Kiley Lythberg in the sixth to win 9-4.

The Dutch then faced Coe in another elimination game and came out on top of a wild game 11-7 to advance. The Dutch got out to a quick start scoring six runs in the first inning and led 7-1 after two innings and appeared to have the game in control, however, Coe slowly battled back scoring a run in the fourth and fifth innings, then added four more in the sixth to tie the game 7-7. Central then added four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.

The Dutch are now 3-1 in the tournament and improved to 30-11 overall and face a tough road today as they play Simpson in an elimination game at 11am. If they win they would then have to beat Luther in back to back games to win the tournament title. You can follow the Dutch live today with Trevor Castle on kniakrls.com starting at 11am.
