Central College landed four players in the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, matching the most of any Iowa Conference school.

The society, in its fourth year, recognizes senior football players who are starters or significant reserves and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. It’s the third straight year that Central has matched or exceeded the number of selections from other league schools. Central also had four players honored in 2009 and had 11 players cited in 2008, the most of any NCAA Division III school. Wartburg College also had four honorees this year and Cornell College had two. Nationwide, 620 players from 246 schools in all divisions of play were chosen.

Central’s honorees include Andy Kneib (NEEB), Colton Steeve, Zach Van Arkel and Korey Van Wyk who was a graduate of Pella Christian High School. Those four players helped Central post a 38-7 mark over the past four seasons, winning three Iowa Conference titles and earning three NCAA Division III playoff berths.

The Hampshire Honor Society is the latest component of the National Football Foundation’s efforts to promote combined athletic and academic success
