Ten students from Knoxville High School along with one Pleasantville student were awarded scholarships at Wednesday’s Knoxville Rotary club meeting. Rotary Scholarship Committee Chairman Mike Lane says students the students were selected out of those who completed the application process. The 11 seniors were awarded $500 scholarships to help supplement expenses as they continue their education after high school. Scholarships awarded include the Dwight Mater Scholarship for a student entering the medical field, the Lela Harp Scholarship for a student who plans to attend a community college and 9 Knoxville Rotary Club Scholarships awarded to students that will be attending a four year college or university. Lane says he enjoys being part of the committee because he understands the importance of education. In addition to the recognition at Wednesday’s meeting, the seniors will also be recognized at the Dollars for Scholars program on May 19th.
