Eighty-one percent of Marion County residents have participated in the 2010 Census count. According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the county’s 81 percent rate is ahead of the statewide average participation rate of 78 percent, and is bolstered by participation rates of 81 percent or better by the Knoxville, Pella, Pleasantville and Otley communities.

Melcher-Dallas, Harvey and Bussey were among the Marion County communities just below the statewide average. Seventy-two percent of U.S. households participated in the 2010 Census by mail, with Iowa ranked third in terms of states with the greatest participation rate, with Wisconsin (81%) in first place and Minnesota (80%) ranked second.
