As National Police Week Continues, residents are asked to stop and think about those who risk their lives each day to keep us safe. So far, more than 18,980 police officers have lost their lives in the line of duty here in the U.S. including 152 in Iowa and 2 in Marion County. Over the last 10 years, the national average is 163 officers annually, which figures to be one about every 53 hours. In addition, an average of 16,200 officers are injured while on the job each year.
