Nearly 5,800 nonprofit organizations in Iowa – including many in Marion County – could lose their tax-exempt status on Monday, unless they file a Form 990 postcard with the IRS. The filing is necessary because of the Pension Protection Act of 2006, which Congress passed that required nearly every non-profit organization to file the Form 990, regardless of income.
In Marion County, 53 non-profit organizations are in danger of losing their status, including 4-H clubs, service organizations, and veterans groups, among others. Filing must be completed by Monday, May 17th, and can be done online. For more information, click the link below to go to the Urban Institute’s National Center for Charitable Statistics site.
