The committee that organized the record-breaking wooden shoe dance at this past weekend’s Tulip Time has tallied the official number of participants that set the new mark. Committee member Sue Youngman tells KNIA/KRLS News that 2,604 dancers will be the official number of participants submitted to Guinness World Records for verification.

Fellow steering committee member Amy VanHaaften says she was amazed at how successful the event turned out.

“I can remember having some meetings earlier this winter, and we were like ‘Oh, will we ever get to 500, will we ever get to 1000,’ and just as the time came closer and the numbers grew and grew, we just never, ever imagined that it would be this successful.”

The special Dutch Dancing event was one of the highlights of the 75th Annual Tulip Time festival, and obliterated the previous record of 475 dancers. The dance will officially be recorded by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest “clog dance”. Verification of the record will be received by the committee in a few weeks.
