The Pella Christian girls golf season came to a close yesterday as they finished sixth in a tough Class 2A Regional at West Liberty.
The Eagles struggled from the start and shot a 470. West Burlington/Notre Dame and Mid Prairie Wellman were the top two teams and they advanced on to state. The Eagles also weren’t able to qualify any individuals for state as no one finished in the top five. Pella Christian was led by Trisha Stump with a 115, Meredith Fopma shot a 116, Paige Zylstra shot a 119 and Ashley VanderMolen shot a 120. Eagles coach Larry Hessing says they didn’t play their best golf yesterday and it’s unfortunate to see the season end like that, but he says the girls made huge strides this season and with everyone back next season with experience they could be a very good team.
