The Pella and Knoxville boys and girls track and field teams get their post seasons underway tonight as they compete in a Class 3A District/Regional meet at South Tama.

The Pella boys have won every meet they’ve competed in this season and are favored to win tonight as well. Pella coach Brent Van Hauen says it’s been a record setting season because of the hard work and dedication of all of the athletes and they hope to continue that with another strong performance tonight at the District meet.

Knoxville boys Coach Mike Cunningham the Second says Pella is the favorite going in…but that does not mean that his team will just watch the Little Dutch run away with things.

On the girls side Pella coach Dak Rasmussen also feels confident they can qualify several events for state based on the success they’ve had throughout the season, especially in the relay races. He feels they can qualify several events from tonight’s District meet but is also confident they can get some events to state based on their times during the season. Knoxville Coach Jeremy Van Engen is hoping a few events can qualify for state…
He says Shot Putter and Discus thrower Katie Ayers has been throwing very well this season and a couple of relay events have a chance to qualify for state.

On the boys side only the top three finishers in each event tonight will qualify for next week’s state meet while the top two finishers in each event for the girls automatically qualify for state, in addition to the next eight overall best times from the season in each event. The State Co-Ed Track and Field meet is next Thursday through Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
