The Pella boys golf team improved on their score from day one by six strokes shooting a 334 on the final day of the Class 3A State Golf Tournament yesterday, and moved up one spot in the team standings to finish sixth overall with a two day total of 674. Ballard won their fourth straight state championship with a 647, Spencer was second with a 649 and Decorah completed the top three with a 650.

Individually Andy Vanderbroek led Pella on Saturday with a 76, which was the second lowest round of the day overall, Lucas Boyd shot an 81, Ben Fessler shot an 85, Beau VanderSluis and Conner Kelderman each shot a 92 and Ryan Van Norden shot a 94. Boyd and Vanderbroek ended in a tie for eighth place individually, each with a 36 hole total of 160, which was just one stroke away from earning a medal by finishing in the top seven

Vandenbroek, Fessler and Kelderman are all seniors for Pella. Pella was playing in their 11th state tournament in the past 13 years.
