The Pella Christian boys tennis team closed out its regular season schedule yesterday in an 8-3 loss to Newton. Despite the loss, the young and inexperienced Eagles squad showed significant progress throughout the season, as Head Coach Luke Nieuwsma noted he was pleased with the performance and how much better each player had gotten since the beginning of the season.

Highlighting Pella Christian’s three match victories was an exciting showdown in No. 1 singles between the Eagles’ Brady Van Kooten and Newton’s Troy Scott. After dropping the first set 6-4, Van Kooten battled back to take the second set 6-3; forcing what would be an incredible 16-14 third-set tiebreaker victory for Van Kooten.

The Pella Christian boys also got match wins out of Michael Mason at No. 6 singles, and the team of Mason and John Veenstra at No. 4 doubles. Up next for the Eagles is the Little Hawkeye Conference meet on Monday.
