Pella Christian’s Jasmin Schelhaas has been added to the list of girls’ qualifiers for the 2010 State Track and Field Championships. Schelhaas, who had already qualified for the meet as a member of the Eagles’ 4×100 Meter Relay team, was selected as an individual qualifier in the 400 Meter Dash.

The process of qualifying for the state track meet in the girls’ ranks includes an automatic bid by placing in the top two at an athlete’s respective regional meet, with the remaining eight competitors selected based on the top remaining times or distances.

Jasmin ran a 59.94 second 400 Meters at Friday’s Regional Meet in Ogden, which placed her third amongst a very strong field. Despite the placing in Ogden, Schelhaas’s time is actually seeded as the seventh-best out of the Class 2-A field.

The Pella Christian girls track and field squad has two events represented at the state meet, while the Eagles boys squad has eight qualifiers. The State Track and Field Championships begin Thursday and run through Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
