Over two thousand people ran or walked in Wednesday night’s Klompen Classic in Pella – one of the largest number of participants ever. A Pella man was the overall winner of the 5k race, with 23-year-old Theodorus Clark finishing the route in 16:40. Another 23-year-old, Danna Kelly of Des Moines, was the top overall female runner.
In the Masters Division for participants age 40 and older, 41-year-old Daniel Austin of Boone took first place in the Men’s Division. 44-year-old Jennifer Smart of Pella took first place in the Female Masters Division. The Klompen Classic is organized by Crossroads of Pella, and is the organization’s largest fundraiser. Crossroads provides a variety of assistance services to local residents, along with free counseling.
