Thousands of visitors and locals alike are excited to have the 2010 Tulip Time festival underway in Pella, including the city’s mayor, Darrell Dobernecker.

“I think this year is going to be an especially exciting one, when you consider it’s the 75th one [Tulip Time],” said Dobernecker. “And I just can’t believe the amount of people who have registered to be a part of the dance record that’s going to be held Saturday morning.”

Participants are expected to shatter the existing record of 475 dancers in wooden shoes, as roughly 2,500 people – including Mayor Dobernecker – are registered to take part in the event, which will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Registration for the event is being held from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday in front of the Vermeer Windmill.
