A Pella-based Christian ministry has organized another “Service Surge” that will have scores of volunteers lending a hand in Ottumwa on Saturday. Joel Bennett, co-founder of A Call to Serve – or “ACTS” – ministries, says roughly 270 volunteers registered to help out in Ottumwa on roughly 20 projects that will have volunteers painting houses, building a wheel-chair ramp and performing general clean-up, among other projects. Volunteers will work from 8:00 a.m. to noon Saturday, followed by a free lunch and musical entertainment from the band Rise at Dawn. The “Service Surge” is the third of its kind in Ottumwa.
