Warm spring weather means more birds as those who migrate south for the winter return to the Midwest. According to Marion County Naturalist Marla Mertz, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds will be migrating back to the area this week and will be looking for readily available food supply. Those who wish to begin feeding these birds should fill hummingbird feeders with a 4:1 ratio of table sugar to water. Mertz says the birds fly the Gulf of Mexico from South and Central America in the winter and come back to the Midwest to bread.
