The Iowa State Investment Office in Knoxville is receiving a facelift thanks to SSMID money. The exterior of the building, located on the south side of the square, is being renovated to make it more esthetically pleasing. Funding for the project was made possible through the city’s Self-Supporting Municipal Improvement District funds, which committee member Carolyn Formanek says are available for a variety of different projects, to all businesses in downtown Knoxville through a small levy that is paid each year by the business owners. Formanek encourages other businesses in the district to apply for the funds to improve the look of their properties by contacting a member of the SSMID committee.
Business owners who are interested in applying for SSMID money need to fill out an application which asks for details of the proposed project, and if approved the funds will pay for 50% of the total amount needed for the project.
