Knoxville’s West Elementary will be honored as a Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. West was nominated by the Iowa Department of Education after 100% of the schools 5th graders achieved a proficient level in the math portion of the 2009 Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The last requirement is state verification that they met the Adequate Yearly Progress requirements for the current school year, which Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says they are confident they do. Principal John Keitges and one teacher will attend the Blue Ribbon Award Ceremony in Washington DC in November. The Blue Ribbon Schools program is run by the US government and is considered the highest honor an American school can achieve.
