Governor Chet Culver will be awarding one local business with an Environmental Excellence Award later this month. The Knoxville 3M plant is one of eleven Iowa organizations and businesses that will be recognized for their leadership and innovation in the protection of Iowa’s natural resources.

Plant Manager Greg Couves tells KNIA/KRLS news they take real pride in the award which is a culmination of years of hard work reducing air emissions and waste sent to landfills. He states their environmental success is a result of the everyday efforts of their employees. 3M has a long history of environmental efficiency across the country and Couves says similar awards have been received in other states so it is nice to be recognized here in Iowa.

3M submitted their award application a few months ago and will be honored at the Iowa Conservation Education Collition’s Governor’s Conference on Environmental Education, which takes place every five years and highlights some of the most prominent current topics in environmental education. The award luncheon will take place on June 28th at the Honey Creek Resort State Park.
