City crews in Knoxville have been working this week to welcome race fans to the area. Checkered flag banners with the words “Welcome Race Fans” have been put up around downtown Knoxville, in time for this weekend’s World of Outlaws events at the Knoxville Raceway. City Manager Dick Schrad says they city has 4 types of banners that are cycled through various seasons. He says the banners are put up by crews using the city’s bucket truck and it’s a relatively quick process. According to Schrad the banners were purchased through the Streetscape Committee from contributions and the proceeds from sales of the metal sprint cars that used to adorn the downtown area.
