The Pella baseball team had two shots at Oskaloosa last night, but were derailed in the fifth inning of both games, as the Little Dutch dropped both games of a Varsity doubleheader at Osky Field: 15-5 and 7-4.

Pella led 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning in game one, before an 8-run inning that included three home runs marked the beginning of the end for Pella, who would fall by the mercy rule in the sixth inning.

In game two, the Little Dutch were tied at 3-3 through three innings following a solo home run by Brett Kingery – and trailed just 4-3 after four innings – before allowing an additional three runs in the fifth inning, which proved to make up the final spread on the scoreboard. In all, Pella committed twelve errors between the two games.

The losses dropped Pella to 7-8 overall and 5-6 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Little Dutch will play another Varsity doubleheader tonight, as they host Knoxville, starting at 5:30 p.m.
