This month’s record breaking rainfall is causing problems across the county, including an abnormal amount of stress on plants. Marion County ISU Extension Program Director Dale Miller says while many people are tempted to fertilize their lawns, gardens and trees in order to attempt to add nutrients, that is one of the worst things you can do at this time. Miller says the plants will use those nutrients and attempt to grow, which will only add more stress. He says putting additional stress on plants that are already having difficulties due to the overly saturated ground will only decrease their chance of survival.
