More information has been released on the fatal accident on T17 Friday morning that killed two men. According to a report by the Iowa State Patrol, the driver of the first vehicle, 30 year-old Jeremy Glen Smith of Centerville, crossed the centerline due to fatigue and was driving northbound in the southbound lane. When the driver of the second vehicle, 23 year-old Amanda Ann Bridgman of Oskaloosa, observed Smith in her lane of traffic she took evasive action to avoid collision. The two vehicles collided head on with Smith’s vehicle coming to rest in the southbound shoulder while Bridgman’s vehicle came to rest in the northbound ditch, both cars were totaled. The report states that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts were transported by helicopter to hospitals in Des Moines with injuries. The two passengers in Smith’s vehicle, 27 year-old Curtis James Temple II and 51 year-old David Keith Burton, were extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means and pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time.
