While one world record was set in Marion County already this year as more than 2,600 dancers put on their wooden shoes during Pella’s Tulip Time, Knoxville may try to cook their way into the Guinness Book of World Records later this summer.  Mayor Don Zoutte recently expressed his interest in taking a stab at the record for world’s largest hamburger.  He says he heard the record was broken earlier this month by a team in Australia and thought, “if the Aussie’s can do it, Iowans can do it even bigger and better”.  Zoutte’s goal is to attempt the record during this year’s 50th anniversary of the Knoxville Nationals.  He says he has already contacted a local meat processing plant informing him that he wants to obtain 300 lbs. of hamburger and discussed the goal with a bakery in northern Iowa who has expressed interest in supplying the bun.  Zoutte says he has contacted Guinness and should receive an informational packet with specifics on how to officially break the record in the near future.
